Who Said Green Living was Hard?
Just because something in your life has become automatic does not mean that its replacement will be difficult. There will, of course, be a transition and a period of adjustment as you turn bad habits into better ones. But changes do not have to be immediate and broad, they can be gradual and small and still serve their purpose.
Forming new eco-friendly habits is simply a matter of time, repetition and growth. You just have to decide to do something different.
For example deciding to not drive your car two or three days a week and use alternate transportation is not a hardship, its just an adjustment. Driving has become so automatic for some people that they can not conceive of anything different. We are willing to steer with a knee while drinking coffee and talk on our cell phone rather than join a carpool or take the bus. Imagine all the books you could read while riding mass transit, not to mention the money you would save. You just have to think about it and decide to do something different.
Being more eco-conscious does not necessarily have to cost you more. In fact it could very well save you money. Natural and sustainable products are now similar in price to their conventional counterparts. And finding green products has become easier than ever. Many businesses on and off the web exclusively carry green products, you just have to look around.
Just remember that ‘living green’ does not mean being in an episode of ‘Little House on the Prarie” Many eco-friendly products look exactly like their conventional counterparts, they just have better heritage.
So don’t be reluctant to ‘go green’. We all want things to be better, but we don’t like change. When you actually think about it, it is kind of funny.
