Evolve Showerhead Review
I had mentioned the Evolve showerhead in a previous post. It was interesting enough that I pruchased one for my own use.
The beauty of the Evolve showerhead is that it lets you save water without compromising your waterflow. As I had mentioned, it does this by shutting the water down to a trickle when it gets hot. When you are ready to take your shower, you open the valve to resume normal flow and scrub away.
The showerhead came in a nicely colored plastic package. It included the showerhead, instructions, the pull tag, and some plumbers tape. Installation was fairly easy. I did find that the included plumbers tape is a bit on the thin side. After installation I had a small leak and ended up using some of my own teflon tape. But it was a nice gesture to include the tape in the package.
The pull tab is optional. You can just as easily flip the valve by hand. If you are going to use the string and pendant you need to make sure that the valve handle is on the side of the spout. You can do this by varying the amount of tape you use on the threads.
The operation of the showerhead is exactly as described. It works best if you turn on the hot water first and let the showerhead shut off the flow, indicating the water out of the head is hot. Then just pull the string (or twist the valve) to resume flow, turn on some cold water to get it to the temperature you like and take your shower.
This particular head will also switch spray patterns by rotating the grey spray section. You can have the rain pattern (as shown) or half rain half center jets, or full center jets. Generally I prefer the full rain position.
I was telling a friend of mine about the showerhead and he proceded to explain to me how he has his shower habit and rarely wastes water. This is probably true for most people. You know how long it takes for the water to get hot, or you just stand there with your hand in the water waiting.
I don’t like to get in the habit of doing anything. To have a habit means to act without thinking. I would prefer to think and be aware of my actions.
While it is true that this showerhead will probably only save you a few dollars a year. That is a few dollars you would not have saved otherwise. If you are in the market for a new showerhead, check out the Evolve.
