Benefits of Owning an Electric Vehicle
There are many programs and benefits available that are there to provide assistance under special circumstances. You probably qualify for several of these programs. The problem is that, unless you are diligently looking, you will most likely never hear about them.
While looking around the web with electric vehicles on my mind. I came across a Pacific Gas and Electric program specifically designed to give price breaks to people who own and charge electric vehicles.
Schedule E-9 outlines a program for reduces electrical rates based on whether the electricity is used during peak or off peak hours. I think I mentioned it in an earlier post, that off-peak electricity goes largely wasted. The power plants don’t shutdown and so the electricity the generate is not used. This opens a door to get very low rates on power during these hours.
After reading the aboce document, I found that you get the lowest rates if you allow PGE to put in a separate meter and a timer for your EV charger. That way they guarantee use of off peak power.
As a new EV owner (review to come) I am going to submit my application for this program and see what happens. I will let you know if it makes much of a difference.
